I don't toss and turn much and I don't snore but I frequently talk and occasionally sleep walk.

Anyone else?

I sleep in a bunk bed so if I slept walk it'd be trouble. :/

As far as I know I'm fine.

My little brother seriously sleep walks and talks (but not in any real language). He sleep interacts - I once found him rustling through papers near my bed shouting "Where is it!? Where is it!?" so I asked him what he was looking for and he replied "Tots!" I asked him what Tots were and if I knew what they were, I could help him look for it. He yelled and cursed and than ran back to his room. Didn't remember it the next day. But he does that sort of thing alot. Sometimes waking up the whole house by screaming and running around in his sleep. Eerie.

As for me, no, I sleep fine. I'm a light sleeper though so I wake up easily

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

My dad talks in his sleep and has like sleeping hag syndrome... I don't know the techinical name for it. I've experienced it a few times, where you think you are awake but you can't get up and can't open your eyes. Since getting my sleep on a better schedule it doesn't bother me, but my dad still gets it all the time.

People with courage and character always seem sinister to the rest.

That's pretty much the kind of stuff I do (only not as loud perhaps)... Once I walked onto the porch in winter in just a t-shirt and underwear and muttered at my dad who was out smoking. I did not remember it the next day.

I don't know if this is considered a sleep disorder.. but at least 3 or 4 times a month, I can not fall asleep and end up either going to school or work with no sleep at all. It sucks just laying there and not being able to fall asleep.

Of course that's a disorder. Commonly known as insomnia. Like, actual insomnia, not people who like to stay up all night claiming to be insomniacs.

oh yah i forgot to mention what happens during the disorder soo yah you go to sleep and you can't wake up, and the dream is soo realistic that you don't know weather your sleeping or if your awake, and most of the time you see a dark figure that is suppoust to be a evil guy, and the only way my dad knows if hes in this state is if he can to a backflip b/c he knows for a fact that in real life he cant do one of thoose anymore (he used to be athletic but now he's got a fat milk belly)... soo yah

He was referring to my post, darling. In anycase, it's not really a jab at Dave Attell (although, granted, I don't like his humor) but really the absurd amount of people who start that they're insomniacs when they're not. I find that sort of thing irritating XD

No disrespect, Meeez, but that doesn't sound like a disorder so much as a...dream... Possibly the 'can't wake up thing' but it's common for (particularly heavy sleepers) to not be able to wake up until they get a certain amount of sleep. And it's common for everyone to not be able to discern dream from reality (infact, I think it's uncommon to realize your dreams are dreams at the time you're dreaming them).

Psychologically, Jung mentions the concept of the 'Shadow' showing up in dreams. Kind of like your opposite which would be seen as 'evil' in a lot of cases, depending on your psychological state. Kind of depends on your opinion on what dreams mean (if anything).

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

If you try to wake me up and I don't wake up I'll start talking to you and I'll yell at you for waking me up and stuff, but I don't remember doing any of that XD one time my friend wanted me to call my friend but I was asleep and she was all "COme on Morgan! Sorry about the mix up. So you guys are Irish twins, huh? Wink

Back to sleeping disorders...

My mom snores pretty bad even though I don't. I think it might have something to do with her weight because one summer she lost fifty pounds and the snoring lessened a lot and when the weight came back so did the horrendous snoring. But her dad (who was a bean pole all his life) snored badly as well.

As far as I know, I'm the first one in the family to have this talking and walking problem. I still have a lot of my motor functions when I sleep walk. My eyes are open. I talk (though not in any easily discernable language). I've even gotten dressed (though I may have had a sock missing and two different shoes on) and made a sandwhich (so what if it was bologna on dry bread?) before.

My sister, who's come to live with us for a while, learned the hard way that if you wake me up to tell me something and let me go back to sleep you have to have me answer 'Yes, I'll do that.' and repeat the instructions before you can trust that I am actually awake.

More like Irish Triplets, I already have a twin XD Infact, if memory serves, my mother used to tell people we were triplets, because then people were more keen on letting her rent a house (evidently, it was OK to let three children go homeless unless they're triplets. No matter, though, I'm just bitter XD).

Oh! Let me get my book, it has something about snoring in it...

Said By Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Sex?

To begin with, women have anatomically different airway circumference so if there is any obstruction, there's a chance the air passing through will not be as likely to hit the oropharyngeal structures as it would in a man. Additionally, a woman's airway is less prone to collapse as it would a man's airway, and that works in her favor as far as snoring is concerned.
When men put on weight they tend to put it on around the neck area, whereas women put on weight around the hips. The fatty tissue around the neck literally squeezes the airway closed so air can't pass through smoothly. Air then hits the structures within the throat and vibrates them, which causes the noise we know as snoring.

There's a bit more talking about drinking, smoking, and pregnancy being contributors but I don't think they apply here. Anyway, I imagine if you gain a lot of weight, even a female would gain some around their neck and thus block the passage as it often does for males.

I believe sleep walking/talking is a recessive gene, could've been latent in your family tree for years. I'm curious, though, is any part of your family from England? I watched a program a few months back (101 bizarre cases in sleepwalking or something similar) that talked about a high rate of sleepwalkers/talkers in the country, specifically in a certain area (I can't recall where, but I reckon somewhere near London). They also mentioned a prominent research facility for sleepwalkers there, which is probably why there are so many in that area (anyone who sleepwalks and wants treatment for it would then move to the area and likely breed, potentially with others afflicted and thus continue to pass on the gene). I found that very interesting since part of my family is from England (my father's mother's side), which I assume is why my brother is a sleepwalker (interestingly, since there are four children in my family it seems to follow the Mendell box chart thing exactly, with one in the four gaining both recessive genes and thus the trait)

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

True, since that'd likely move the obstruction of the airway so they can breathe correctly.

I have insomnia, but I have countered it by purposely not going to sleep.

I can at least do something with my time if I am not gonna sleep.

Its not who a person is in the inside, but what he does that defines him.
