Drums need to be tuned just like any other instrument. You are basically tightening the drum to give it a different note.

I've never had to tighten drum heads really. I use electric drums. Well, I can tighten the snare to get the feel I want. But, to change the sound is just the push of a few buttons.

I play the drums also it took me like 30mins to get the right sound coming from my snare drum that gave me an erection now I messed it up somehow and yeah tuning the drums is a bitch I have my toms tuned really low so they make deep sounds and my snare is really high
